History of St Helena Bay and other relevant information
St Helena Bay was discovered by Vasco da Gama who arrived in St Helena Bay in 1497. He thought that he arrived at Table Mountain. In fact, there is a small mountain called Klein Tafelberg (small table mountain) which can be seen across the Atlantic Ocean towards Elands Bay.
St Helena Bay was named by Vasco da Gama originally as Bahia de Santa Elena, after his best friend Constantine the Great’ religious mother.
St Helena Bay has a lovely community and one quickly becomes part of it.
