Leafy, modern Jukskei Park, neighbour to Olivedale and Douglasdale, lies in the northern reaches of the northern suburbs of Johannesburg.
As the names of the surrounding suburbs suggest, with their reference to ‘dale’, most of the area was once a farm, and Jukskei Park is, for the most part, an upper-middle class suburb given over to modern townhouses and older more sedate homes that lie on fairly big properties.
One of the major aspects in favour of staying in Jukskei Park is its access. The N1 that runs in a ring around Johannesburg is close by and it borders on the Dome, Northgate, Fourways and Montecasino as well as a relatively easy route into Sandton, depending on the time of day you intend venturing across the northern suburbs.
You also have the best of both worlds when it comes to entertainment. Jukskei Park is close enough to the ‘escape route’ to the north of Johannesburg, which takes you via the pretty village of Muldersdrift to the Unesco World Heritage site of the Cradle of Humankind - with some incredible examples of ancient fossils, the Sterkfontein and Wonder caves and other places of historical interest - and beyond to the Magaliesberg, which is always a welcome respite from city living. Yet you also have access to major shopping centres - Northgate, Fourways and Sandton - for shopping, movies and an array of restaurants.
