It was built between 1860 and 1880 in a simple, symmetrical early Cape style with a flat roof sloping towards the back. In 1874, Dr F Biccard bought the property from the ‘Board of Church wardens' of the Dutch Reformed Church. During later renovations the house was given a pitchroof and Victorian detailing.
