This excellent Karoo farm is situated only 54km from the historic town of Graaff-Reinet and has magnificent panoramic views of the sometimes snow-capped surrounding mountains. The farm is entirely game fenced with a CAE fence which makes it ideally suited for a game enterprise. Presently it is farmed with sheep. These can be negotiated separately.
A large area of the farm is made up of plains which are flooded by the Plat and Kraai Rivers traversing through the property. This area has an abundance of Karoo succulents and acacia trees creating excellent lambing and/or kidding veld. The rest of the farm consists of Karoo plains with mixed Karoo shrubs and grassveld, as well as undulating ridges with various palatable shrubs and trees such as Granaat, Spekboom, Shepherd Trees, Jacket Plum,
Kuni, Karoo num-num and others. This diverse vegetation is ideal for sheep, goats and most of the plains game species. Naturally occurring game include kudu, springbok, rhebok and steenbok. The average rainfall is 275mm – 300mm and in the good seasons cattle perform very well.
The farm is divided into 23 veld camps and 4 irrigation paddocks. All the camps have permanent watering points supplied by solar pumps. An excellent well-planned road infrastructure insures easy access to all areas of the property. Stock handling facilities are strategically placed creating ease of management. The official carrying capacity is 1LSU to 16ha.
18ha of irrigable land has been developed but not currently in use. This was supplied by 3 strong boreholes delivering about 100 000 l/hr and pumped into a large lined earth-holding dam. The irrigation can easily be resurrected. A large steel shed has recently been built and can be used for multiple purposes. There is no homestead on the property other than an unfinished cottage.
An easy to manage, very well-developed livestock/game farm
